Dear fellow IB-students,
Have you always dreamed of fleeing the old Arctic for a university education abroad? Have you gotten lost on confusing college websites trying to locate the undergraduate course entry requirements? Do you have any idea what this would cost you? Is your guidance counselor useless? There are a lot of myths and mysteries surrounding studying abroad for higher education. Most importantly – do you think you have what it takes? Do you have questions you just cannot find answers for in online forums and from your teachers? We do! (And sometimes the UCAS pamphlets just aren’t enough..) As a result, we have planned an event for all of those aspiring to pursue a degree out of Finland.
GTFO Finland is a seminar organized by FIBS, bringing Finnish IB students from prestigious foreign universities to speak to you about what it’s actually like to study abroad. There will be students from University of Cambridge, University of Glasgow, University of Exeter, University of Oxford, Harvard University, University of Aberdeen, London School of Economics, University of St. Andrews, and City University of Hong Kong. Matters such as the UK and US application processes, future prospects, student life, finances, and academics will be covered by said students, while a Kela representative will speak about their potential involvement in your study years abroad. There will also be a Fulbright spokesperson present to explain their scholarship.
The event will be held August 24th at Helsingin Suomalainen Yhteiskoulu (SYK). It will begin at 11:00 in the Great Hall with a welcoming speech. From there on, there will be lectures in the hall throughout the day; however, if a certain lecture is not of interest, you can have an individual chat with the different university students at their stations in the hall’s foyer. The seminar will end at 16:30.
There will be no lunch provided, but there is a break during which you may eat at one of the close-by restaurants or you can bring your own lunch, if you choose. There will be a bake sale.
The entrance fee for the event is 5€.
Hope you come and enjoy a fun, enlightening day with us! If you have any questions, feel free to contact us.
Note: If you are interested in attending for free and CAS, we are looking for baking enthusiasts from the Helsinki area who could bring baked goods for the sale. For more information, contact chairman Maria Puolakkainen, +358505509590.
